Welcome to Mcallister, Montana
McAllister is seven miles north of Ennis. The general store and post office are located almost on the shore of Ennis Lake. It was named for the family of a local rancher. McAllister was established as a town, in a slightly different location, in December 1896 on land bought by Alex McAllister from the Northern Pacific Railroad. McAllister's parents had settled here in 1871. One of the first churches in Madison County, a Methodist frame building, was built here in 1887 and is still used occasionally. (from Cheney's Names on the Face of Montana, Mountain Press Publishing Company) McAllister is located near Norris and Potosi Hot Springs as well as the historic mining towns of Virginia City and Nevada City. Virginia City has is one of the most well preserved placer mining town of the gold rush era in the American West. Virginia City has tourist attractions to offer, as in historic tours, old west photo gallery, theater, vaudeville and great shopping. Historic preservation is evident here and in Nevada City, and touring these historic towns can take you back into the Victorian era, where people from all walks of life converged to chase the illusive gold dust. Walk the historic boardwalks and relive the past.
