Marysville

Marysville's placer gold was first found in Silver Creek in 1862. Miner's eventually named the camp after Mrs. Mary Ralston, an early resident.

Thomas Cruse became one of the biggest success stories of the area after relocating an abandoned mine claim and starting the Drumlummon mine, eventually recovering $144,000. Three years later Cruse sold the mine to an English corporation, built a home in Helena and opened up banks in Helena and Marysville.

Cruse guaranteed building of the state capitol by buying its unsold bonds and also donated the land and funds for the building of the Cathedral of St. Helena.

Marysville, which once had as many as 5,000 residents, is alive today with some modern homes and business's along side restored homes and abandoned buildings.

To get to Marysville travel just north of Helena on I-15, take the Lincoln Road Exit and travel east approximately 9 miles to the turn-off for Marysville and the Great Divide Ski Area, then approximately 6 miles to the town of Marysville.
