Special Features Lewis & Clark Clark's Lookout State Park
The Lewis & Clark Expedition: Clark's Lookout State Park
Clark arrived on August 13th, 1805 and climbed the high bluff to look over the Beaverhead Valley. A brook at his feet ran westward and he knew he had crossed the Continental Divide. The brook was one of many tributary streams of today's Snake River, which in turn joined the Columbia.
The captains had split at this point to find the Shoshone. Lewis was headed up Lemhi Pass and unknown to Clark, Lewis had met with 60 warriors to arrange a meeting to secure horses. But the longer Clark lagged behind, the more Lewis worried that the Shoshone would leave.
You can drive to the site located just 1 mile north of Dillon off Highway 91, park right next to it, and walk the trail to the top for an amazing view from Clark's Lookout.
